Edelbrock introduces Part 7800 Performer-Link Timing Chain, specially crafted for use with Edelbrock or stock cams. Featuring a solid-bushing chain, this timing chain provides a genuine bearing surface that smoothly rolls with the sprockets, eliminating chain stretch concerns. The cam sprockets are constructed from cast iron with a tensile strength of 35,000 psi, ensuring durability. On the other hand, the crank sprockets are made from billet SAE-1144 steel and undergo induction heat treatment for enhanced strength.
Four Performer-Link sets serve as stock replacement parts, meeting 50-state legal standards (refer to listings in bold type). For other sets, three keyway setting points are incorporated to facilitate accurate timing selection for both early and late-model vehicles. It’s important to note that Performer-Link timing sets are not recommended for use above 6500 rpm, while Performer roller chain sets are engineered to operate within this range.
To maintain the integrity of the chain and sprockets, it’s crucial to avoid hammering directly on them, as this may lead to cracking of the hardened links and pins, resulting in premature failures. For installations requiring hammering, a sleeve is recommended, and if necessary, a brass drift punch may be used with careful alternation of blows on either side of the sprocket to prevent cocking. Stretching the chain with a screwdriver should be avoided at all costs.
Before reassembly, checking for clearance between the timing chain and the block, as well as between the chain and front cover, is essential. Ensuring precise alignment of both the cam and crank sprockets is crucial, as misalignment can potentially cause the chain to break. Edelbrock’s Part 7800 Performer-Link Timing Chain guarantees reliability and longevity, embodying precision engineering for optimal engine performance.
